Not every role is referable. This maths only works where your people actually know candidates, we'd rather you find that out here than on invoice four.

How the maths works

Three numbers decide the reward

The calculator is only arithmetic. These are the three inputs behind it, and why each one is where it is.

The benchmark

The agency fee is the number to beat

Whatever an agency quotes for the role is what the vacancy already costs you when it goes unfilled. Price the reward against that, not against a gut feeling about what feels generous.

The split

Pay a little on apply, the rest on trial clear

A small credit when someone actually refers keeps the program alive between hires. The large half lands only once the hire has cleared their trial period, so a reward never outruns the result.

The software

One line, divided across the hires

The plan is flat, so the more the program produces the smaller the per-hire cost of the software gets. At €599 a month and four hires, it is €150 a hire, and it stops being the interesting number quickly.

Before you set a number

The awkward questions

The ones that decide whether a reward level survives contact with payroll.

In the Netherlands a referral reward to your own employee is generally taxed as wage. Either gross it up so the number they see is the number they get, or say plainly that it is gross, what kills a program is finding out afterwards.
